Libya's NOC Announces Opening of Al-Rashad Gas Field with Production Capacity of 50 Million Cubic Feet per Day
Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) has announced the opening of the Al-Rashad gas field, located south of the coastal city of Brega, with a production capacity of 50 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
The announcement was made by NOC Chairman Masoud Suleman during a ceremony marking the 65th anniversary of Libya’s first crude oil export shipment from the Port of Brega in 1961.
The commissioning of the Al-Rashad gas field represents an important addition to Libya’s oil and gas production infrastructure, supporting efforts to strengthen domestic natural gas supplies and meet growing energy demand.
According to the NOC, the field is expected to contribute to the country's gas supply network, providing additional resources for electricity generation and industrial operations.
Strengthening Libya's Domestic Energy Supply
The opening comes as Libya continues working to develop its natural gas resources and strengthen the reliability of energy supplies for domestic consumption.
With a stated production capacity of 50 million cubic feet per day, Al-Rashad is expected to support the availability of natural gas for power stations and industrial facilities, two sectors that depend on consistent fuel supplies.
The development also highlights the role of Libya's natural gas sector in supporting economic activity and improving the country's energy infrastructure.
The inauguration coincides with the anniversary of Libya's first oil export from Brega, a milestone in the development of the country's petroleum industry and its emergence as an international energy producer.
The addition of Al-Rashad to Libya's production network marks another step toward expanding domestic gas availability and supporting the country's electricity and industrial sectors.
